Hi,

I am hoping they are 'giants' as I just bought a 'Bow Grip of Giantslaying'.

Ettins are NOT Giants. They are a complete different category of monster.

They are their own class, that doesn't have a slaying mod.

Many of those classes exist, such as imps, centaurs, etc...

best bet to test this is to find an area with both obvious giants and ettins, drop an EoE and look at the damage when a giant or ettin dies

Or you could see that it's been tested before:

This is true....
Ettin is Ettin, nothing more to it. Yea they are big but that doesn't make them giants.

I have been farming ettin pauldrons for the last week. I recall researching on the web, and coming across information on this particular issue. It has been tested out. No, Ettins are not giants. Fire and ice prefixes are quite nice though.

From my own experience: fire damage works well.
